Clinical Notes

Useful in screening for abnormalities of urine in the diagnosis and management of renal diseases, urinary tract infection (UTI), urinary tract neoplasms, inflammatory or neoplastic entities adjacent to the urinary tract, and systemic disorders. Careful microscopy of urine sediment on freshly voided, warm urine is important whenever abnormalities are detected in urine protein, blood, leukocyte esterase or nitrite, or when checking for crystalluria. Microscopy of urinary sediment is especially important for monitoring those with renal or urinary tract disease.
