Anesthesiology Services
General Anesthesia
During general anesthesia, the patient is medicated to the point of being unconscious through the use of an IV injection or breathing mask. Anesthetics are usually combined with analgesic or neuromuscular blocking agents.
Regional Anesthesia
Regional anesthesia uses an injection to numb a specific portion of the body and allows the patient to be awake, sedated, or asleep. Types of regional anesthesia include spinal, epidural, peripheral nerve blocks, and home pump.
Monitored Anesthesia Care
Also referred to as conscious sedation or “twilight sleep”, MAC is administered through an IV and monitored by a professional during surgery. The patient is usually awake and able to follow simple instructions.
